In the Bible Jesus has a lot of interactions with folks often resulting in some pretty direct statements that bring to light the truth of the situation both then and the situation we find ourselves in today.
At Paseo we find ourselves in a tight spot financially and we have looked at cutting back in certain areas that are extras.
One day while my wife and I were talking about some of those areas, the subject of our cafe table came up and the idea of cutting back on the pastries, including the donuts.
My wife and I both speak spanish and so over the years if we needed to talk about something without our kids knowing, we would just switch to spanish. Well we don’t hide much about the life of the church from our kids and so we were talking, in english, about the financial pinch we find ourselves in.
Well last weekend when my wife and son were headed out the
door to go to Paseo we realized my son had been listening to our conversation about losing the donuts. As he was headed out the door he grabbed his bank and poured out all his change into a ziplock baggy. My wife asked him what he was doing. He said, “We have to have the donuts at Paseo.”
Jesus quotes…. “What you say flows from what is in your heart” and “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
Apparently my son has a strong love for donuts.
