For most of our marriage we have lived pretty much like everyone else. Credit cards, minimal savings, no budget, no long term planning… we even had months were we over-drafted on a regular basis… which makes no sense to me… you don’t have enough money, so the bank charges you more money.
That changed for us about 3 years ago. On the way back home on a late night drive I found Dave Ramsey on the radio. He is the author of the “Total Money Makeover.” We had played with getting control of our finances in the past, but nothing ever stuck until Dave. We have paid off a significant amount of debt… in the area of 90k so far and haven’t used a credit care in three years.
I won’t go into detail about all our goals financially, but here’s what we’re shooting for….
Fi – 8
- Increase our Emergency Fund to 3 months expenses
- Add Term Life Insurance for myself
- Add Term Life Insurance for my wife
- Continue to pay down on our house, the last debt we have
Do you have a plan? Do you use a budget? What goals do you have? Do you find money to be a problem in your marriage or something you work together on?
I have never been a “fit” person. Always active, I love sports, competition, however in the past few years, by body has given out on me making this more difficult… plus my love of food. Regardless of this, I am going to begin focusing more on this part of my life, being more intentional.
Ph – 7
- Exercise 3 times/week
- Weigh 220#
- Eat more salad and chicken (red meat 2x week max)
- Drink more water and tea ( cut out diet coke and all soda )
- In bed by 11pm 5 nights a week
How are you doing physically? Do you exercise regularly, get enough rest? Eating healthy?
How do you stay motivated in order to achieve your health goals?
So I really believe in continuing to learn. That’s why it’s always one of my goals for the year.
I’m hoping that this year I’ll be kicking it into high gear by returning to college. I don’t think it is necessary to pursue an additional degree, but that’s what I’m looking at doing this year.
Here are the three areas that I’m looking at as far as education is concerned:
Ed – 5
- Talk to EPCC about Paramedic Degree
- Pray and talk through Rochester College Missional Leadership or Bakke Univ. about Global Urban Leadership
- One Conference
Is education important to you? What do you do to continually grow and learn?
